I can still remember putting on my red dress and doing my nails with my friends in Tappan Hall as we got ready for Charter Day Ball 2017. We were blasting Taylor Swift and everyone in our corridor was running up and down the hall, popping into rooms to find someone who could braid and asking for help zipping up their dresses. This was the first time I truly felt like a Miamian.
At this point, as a first year, I still hadn’t quite found my place at Miami. I felt lost and confused most of the time amidst the red brick and students rushing to their next class, club meeting, or social engagement. I didn’t know what it felt like to be a part of the Miami tradition, and I desperately wanted to find my place.
Charter Day Ball was the first time I felt like I was a part of the tradition, dancing around with so many Miamians and having a blast with my new college friends. This feeling continued throughout the rest of my first year as I became a SOUL and welcomed the new class of 2022 into the Miami tradition. And then suddenly, without me realizing it, I was a junior and the Executive Co-Chair of Charter Day Ball. Time has flown over the past few years as I’ve grown and changed as a person, but one thing that hasn’t changed is my desire to help others find their place at Miami.
Now, as I finish my last week of classes and look forward to my senior year I can’t help but feel a little nostalgic. I have loved my Miami experience, and that’s why I’m so excited and passionate about planning Charter Day Ball 2021. I want to showcase the talent and creativity of the Miami and Oxford community. I want to create a space for others to have fun, dance around, and enjoy beautiful art. I want to be a part of creating the Miami tradition of Charter Day Ball.
And I hope you’ll join me.
Love & Honor,
Halle Campbell
